User Rating: 5.9 | Descent: FreeSpace - Silent Threat PC
Gameplay: Definently not as good as its original, you're put into service with Galactic Terran Intelligence (GTI) to do the dirty work and all that, but it just doesn't work with a space fighter game, basically instead of destroying a ship because they're the enemy, you're destroying a ship because its crew knows too much, that's about it. A lot of the missions are pretty fun though, you get some impressive ships and weapons. The last mission is IMPOSSIBLE, I'm serious, not like really hard, but impossible. Here's how it plays out: You're sent to destroy an Arcadia class headquarters base because it's crew is part of a rogue element in the GTI. No problem, right? Wrong, it's very easy to destroy the station, it's hull integrity is already down to like 15%, but as soon as you do a MASSIVE ship comes out of subspace, the Hades, along with infinite wings of fighters to shoot at you, sound fun? You're sent some more bomber wings and you usually end up getting the ships hull integrity down to somewhere around 40%-60%, by then your entire squad's been destroyed, you're the only one left. You can't call for support to get you more bombs because it'll be destroyed the second it comes in, so you have to hide in a weak point where the AI doesn't see you for some reason and shoot with your lasers until the ship goes down, this process takes about 15 min of just sitting there with your hand held down on the trigger. After that you need to run away fast, as fast as you can, if you don't, you'll get caught in the shockwave, destroyed, and you'll have to start all over again, which likely won't happen, because you'll be so pi**ed off that you'll run to the garage to get a hammer and smash your computer into little pieces. This last mission pretty much wrecks the game. Graphics: Since it's an expansion, the same as Freespace: The Great War Sound: Also the same Value: You can buy this now for like 5 bucks. So you're really not losing much. But it's really a pretty worthless expansion pack.
