"Fight Club" meets MTV.

User Rating: 9 | Def Jam: Fight for NY PS2
When it was first released, "Def Jam Vendetta" was the most enjoyable wrestling title I'd ever played. It was colorful, violent and fun. However, it lacked a number of features most WWE games come with and was a bit on the short side. "Def Jam: Fight for NY" is what a sequel is suppose to be. It's not only bigger, it's better.

Starting off with a change of venue, "Fight for NY" no longer resembles a wrestling game since it takes place in the streets. The darker scenario is right out of "Fight Club" and the number of characters has increased. Also, the graphics blow away the visuals seen in "Vendetta". The enviroments are interactive and destructive and the fighting techniques have increased tenfold. Melee weapons are now a part of the action and so is the crowd, which can turn the tide of a fight.

I also like that the number of fighting modes have now more than doubled and the ability to create a colorful fighter of your own is on par with the "Tiger Woods" games. Unlike the first, the songs are now played in all their entirety. And unlike the first, this is an "M" rated game, so the violence is all the more brutal. It's still not very realistic, but it is strong. In the end, as good as the first "Def Jam" was, "Fight for NY" is even better. It's a great fighter in the vein of the "Mortal Kombat" titles.
