If Zelda and Final Fantasy mated, Crystalis would be their love child.

When I was a little tyke of about five I had already beat The Legend of Zelda about a begillion times. I had played Final Fantasy but got so bored I had to play TMNT2: the arcade game just to maintain my young prepubescant sanity. I needed a new drug(as Hewie Lewis would say) and Crystalis was it. I played it so much I got Nintendo thumb all over again. And it was well worth it. The gameplay is exceptional as is the sound, and graphics. But the one thing that really turned me on about this game was the story. The combination of a Zelda like world with a seudo-futuristic present day appocolyptic occurance really appealed to me. When I finally beat the game about a year later due to the constant leveling up that's required to even hurt certain bosses, I was not disapointed. The ending credits are like a trip down fantasy memory lane as you see your favorite and some times hated locations and characters after you defeat the evil computer driven Floating Fortress. I seriously got goose bumps due to the nostalgia of seeing all of these places liberated. It gave me a warm feeling of "all's well" that I had never experienced in a game at that age. The characters are memorable for a game of that time as are the locations. Who could forget the surprise of unveiling the sages and befriending a dolphin as an ocean based mode of transportation, or freeing the townsfolk from enslavment in the mine found deep in the frozen mountains? This is a fabulous game for any RPG fan, or even a fan of hack and slash adventure. But as they say on "Reading Rainbow" don't take my word for it. Try it yourself.
