I picked up this game thinking that it was just going to be a FFVII fan service but its actually a great game.

I like FFVII but never to the point where I couldn't enjoy or appreciate other ones like some other fans of the game. With that said, I wasn't sure what to expect from this game when first getting it. I didn't know if it was going to be a legitamite attempt from SquareEnix to make an action RPG or simply a story about the events that pre date FFVII's story with a game attached to it. I was wonderfully surprised. SquareEnix managed to not only make a great and somewhat original game but they also managed to expand on the events that happened before FFVII's story while shaking things up a bit with new details and characters.

My breakdown:

What's Good:

- Great graphics
- Familiar sounds
- Remixed music of the original
- Creates new dimensions of characters already introduced in the original
- Throws new characters into the story to add a spin on what fans already thought they knew

- Plenty of bonus content
- Has its own original battle system

What's Not-So-Good:

- No theater mode to view the cool CGI scenes
- Some things you don't get back in New Game +
- Lacks many of the abilities and summons that were available in the original

What's Bad: Nothing that seriously brings down the value.

In all, Crisis Core manages to stand on its own as a great entry in the FF franchise instead of leeching off the legacy of its predecessor. The game is original in its own way and does many things different than any Final Fantasy released before it.
