Its like if Inception, Metroid and Jedi Outcast had a baby...

User Rating: 8 | Control PC

I feel as if "Control" is the first game that has tried to integrate something original into its gameplay whereas most other games appear to be more generic sticking to a common formula. "Control" is very refreshing and could potentially become a massive and popular franchise in the future. If any of you know who Psycho Mantis from Metal Gear Solid is, "Control" is basically being a PsychoMantis type character as the main protagonist instead of a boss. In "Control" you are a super psychic soldier capable of using your mind as a weapon and your goal is to find your brother whilst cleaning "the hiss" (psychic zombie like monsters) within the Federal Bureau of Control.

The Good:
+ Interesting Game Mechanics a Mix between A)Metroid: Where you gain different keycards and backtrack to previously visited areas and B)Jedi Outcast: Where you have superpowers and feel like a powerful jedi and C)a generic PS4 shooter where you shoot at enemies and hide behind walls while reloading.

+ Moving Walls/Structures reminiscent of the movie "Inception"/ The world constantly changes due to your perception. The world is one big illusion and it just shows how amazing game design has become.

+ Flying around the room, lifting objects and throwing them around the room. You feel like a god at times (think of magneto or psycho mantis) .

+ Interesting areas to visit and challenging enemies. A well designed map system and clear markers to know where to go.

+ Interesting setting based on Carl Jung Theory of "Synchronicity" and "Archetypes". The idea for the game took its roots from 19th century psychology which makes it different from other games.

+ This game forces you to solve puzzles and to think outside of the box especially in the "Ocean View Hotel".

The Bad
+ Really Short (It took me 6-10 Hours to complete the Main Mission + Side Quests)

+ For some strange reason you can't duck behind walls in order to engage in tactical shooting. The crouching/ducking mechanism is really shitty.

+ The story could have been explained better. You often don't understand what goes on in this game until mid-game. The game also does a bad job at explaining how to upgrade your weapons/mods. I had to tinker a little bit to understand.

+ The side quests should have been part of the main story. You can literally finish the game without getting any of the super powers.

+ The videos are too long. The game would have been 2 hours shorter if there weren't any cutscenes.

+ Besides "Levitation" and "Throwing Objects" the rest of the superpowers are useless. At times it feels as if upgrading is useless since 70% of the upgrades are useless and unecessary(like Seize/Revolving Gun and Melee). Its impossible to create "builds" which would have been fun for a 2nd playthrough.

If they improve on their mistakes "Control 2" could be a masterpiece!
