Don't make the mistake and listen to anyone who tells you to this game is good. It is total crap!
The X-Box version is almost identical to the PS2 version except that this version has better visuals.
Now Cold Fear was released after the Game Cube’s version of Resident Evil 4, on the PS2. With a game like Resident Evil 4 on the market, the developers of Cold Fear should have delayed the game and work on it a lot more to provide a more “Resident Evil 4”- like feel to it. However they did not and the result is a horrible game.
Not everything about the game is bad, the game’s graphics is actually acceptable, it’s not really detailed or anything, but it is good. It’s simple and straight forward. The FMV at the beginning of the game was well done.
The controls of the game really suffers a lot and I am disgusted by it. It’s sluggish, irresponsive and hard to maneuver. It’s really a shame, if this game had proper controls it may have been an okay game despite everything else, but it’s not. Aiming, moving exploring, combat, everything is horrible. Let me say it again, do not buy this game!
The music and sound effects was well done, it’s not really spooky, but it’s good nevertheless. The voice acting was horrible! Characters have no depth and character in their tone, especially the main character.
You begin the game on a boat, which has some really cool effects such as the boat rocking, rain falling and ocean waves crashing on board. It provides a very unique feel to it…but that’s about it.
The main character in the game is not a memorable character. The game has NO map! Therefore you will be doing a lot of backtracking and guessing on where to go next. Every room has a loading point so backtracking will cost you a lot of time looking at the loading screen because the loading times are long between rooms. You can only save at certain points in the game only! There are no saving points therefore if you die you will have to start at the last save point, which is usually separated very far apart. The game has no inventory! Your character cannot carry any health packs, instead you have to hunt for them when you need them, or hope an enemy drops one for you. There are a few good weapons in the game, but the number of ammo you can carry for each weapon is strictly limited for example, you pistol (first weapon) can only hold a maximum of 42 shots, therefore you cannot carry anymore ammo unless you use up some. This game will do you more harm psychologically than good!
DO NOT BUY THIS GAME! Cold fear simply is not game to buy. If you rent it, you will return it after five minutes of playing. If you bought it you will curse you head off and act in a very violent manner because of the sheer crap this game has in store for you, it is best you return it with some really compelling lie like “My house burned down and I need my money back to pay rent”. If you got it free, throw it away, because it deserves to be in the trash! With a game like Resident Evil 4 on the market, it’s hard to recommend this game to anyone! It’s not worth it!
