Castlevania SOTN, is perhaps the greatest game created for the Sony Playstation. It smoothly combines old-school side-scrolling with innovative gameplay, puzzle solving, and all around coolness. The hero is the half human son of Dracula which imbues him with the vampire power, but it is his human half that gives him the power of his heart. The animation is superb, the music outstanding and the overall reply is amazing. There are so many weapons (and weapon combinations!) to keep you constantly trying new things. Also, the ablility to morph into a bat, a wolf, and a cloud of mist, add to the puzzle solving and coolness of the game. Certain areas can only be reached using these powers, so it requires careful attention to the map and area locations to find everything. Overall this game is one of my favorites. In a day where games are getting better and better graphics, Castlevania SOTN continues to shine and illustrate the point that it takes more than state-of-the-art graphics to make a legendary game.
