The Best 2D game ever

User Rating: 9.9 | Akumajou Dracula X: Gekka no Yasoukyoku (PSOne Books) PS
Summary: It comes as no surprise that Konami, one of the best game companies around has made yet another epic masterpiece. But who expected it to be 2D? With the Genesis and SNES all but forgotten, Mario and Sonic have moved on. And I've played all the Sonic and Mario, Metroid and Earthworm Jim games from those days, but this game beats them all. Gameplay: Borrowing greatly from the classic Metroid series, this isn't your good old Castlevania game. Dracula's hang-out is now riddled with secrets and fully open to exploration. Everything is connected to everything else, no levels (though some places are much more difficult than others). Bosses are fun, though in the end you'll be using the same tactics on nearly all of them. As you gain new powers you can access new areas. And just when you think its over, you realize this castle is a lot bigger than you had ever dreamed. Graphics: This game is incredible looking. Huge sprites make up Alucard and his enemies. Bosses are especially impressive. Backgrounds are more detailed than any other game I've ever seen. Sound: Haunting music is what the Castlevania series is most known for and this series does not dissapoint. Quite possibly the best music in the seres, everything fits and has that bone-chilling effect. Voice acting is acceptable, and though nothing great, it gets the job done. You'll be hard pressed to find better music in a video game. In the end, though it is a lot longer than you'll expect, it just isn't long enough. Luckily, looking for those last couple of areas can make it go on for a good bit longer. Nothing short of spectacular. Easily one of the top five Playstation games. Ever.
