Castlevania 3D done right!

User Rating: 8.5 | Castlevania PS2
I was first expecting Lament of Innocence to be like most 3 dimensional Castlevania games, BAD! Being a die hard Castlevania fan ever since the original for NES I was first skeptical to play this game due to the fact that most 3D Castlevania games just don't stick to the feel of the beloved series nor do they look good doing so sadly. Lament of Innocence in my opinion is the exception to this, you assume the role of "Leon Belmont" which should be no surprise to fans of the series that you play as yet another "Belmont". The unique thing about this Castlevania is that right off the bat the entire Castle is open to you through "warp stands" there are in total 5 areas to explore during the game and each area hosts different and harder enemies. You must choose wisely where you want to head next so that you do not accidentally wander into an area and get in way over your head. The one thing I do not like about this game is that you are stuck with the trusty "Belmont" whip. It seems lazy to me that Konami insists on only supplying you with a whip and no other weapons, this game being from the creators of "Symphony of the Night" which is regarded as one of the best Castlevania games to date I would expect that they give you the same options when it comes to weapons that they did in SOTN. Overall the game looks and sounds great and is instantly addictive, for fans of the series it is a definite must buy. If you have never played a Castlevania game or are just an overall fan of action games I recommend you give this one a shot and see what you think.
