Cartoon Wars Android and I App Review 1/15/13

Cartoon World is a charismatic action packed thriller. Never would I think that stick figures would be so fun. The game starts out with a unique side scrolling action. But you control the scroll with the tilt of your android or I device. You follow your troops into battle as battle ensues. Your objective, to defend your castle against the unending masses of baddies bent on exacting revenge and pillaging your tower. You are equipped with a ballista arrow launcher on top of your tower which will aid in repelling the attack. As time progresses you have a meter that will continue to fill up and allows your to pump out more defenses. Anyone that has ever played the iconic PC game Z by the bitmap brothers will have a little sentimental attachment to this title.

Sacrifice some of your meter points to upgrade your regeneration crystal, this will be a worthy upgrade for further into each mission as it will allow you to put out more units in the same amount of time. Sometimes the right strategy and timing will be exactly whats needed to successfully defend your castle. The action is real time and the battles quickly heat up. A plethora of unlockables await you as you get points from defeating your enemies. Upgrade each deployable character up to level 15, at each factor of 5, your character will morph into a different version of the base model, and that usually means upgrades, both attack type, power, and defense.

You can fly through the first 25 or 50 levels with little skill and just playing the levels a couple of times through until you save up enough in game currency to properly upgrade your units. The first upgrade which will provide the biggest bang for your buck is the ninja warrior class. His attack and defense versus his cost, is far superior to any of the early unlockable characters. Also keep a keen eye on the power of your ballista as your will want to constantly manage the ballista pattern to do the most destruction to the opposition. Eventually the ballista will become multi-arrow and then eventually flame arrows. Very powerful.

Once you start creeping up near level 100, you will definitely have to reply some of the levels time and time again until you save enough gold to unlock some of the highest levels of deployable units. You can save yourself some time and level grinding by using real world currency in exchange for in game gold, but I was able to successfully unlock nearly all of the unit levels without spending any money, but again patience is key. And without these higher level upgrades, you won't stand a chance against some of the new and upgraded models of enemies you face, ranging from serpents, to ogres, to space ships and more.

Overall my time spent with this game was enjoyable, I felt like I got enough gameplay from the title for a free android game, and that with the right skill and tact you could offset some of the need for spending real world money, which is a key component for me in liking android and I games. The visuals are probably as good as you can get for near grey tone colors and stick figure artwork.

One note, is that this game seems to have some difficulty with tablet as the scroll mechanism is wonky and you have to hold the tablet up at a 90 degree angle just to get the screen to scroll.

Thank you for reading this review and hope you have an Epic Day!
