The worst multiplayer experience in COD to date

User Rating: 1 | Call of Duty: WWII PS4

This is a non-bias review & I'll start with why this game doesn't deserve a 1/10. Graphically, it's very good and the atmosphere of the game is above average. The other thing I should point out is that this review is only for the multiplayer experience. Unfortunately that's where I'm afraid the fun stops. I'll briefly break down the key elements of why this game fails & it is all of them:

Connection:

Remember some people complained about the hitmarkers on COD: Ghosts? Multiply that by several numbers and you have WW2. Some youtube videos can demonstrate this better than I can but you can sink a half clip into a moving target only for them to turn around and you to die instantly, you know somethings up. I've also done this to people myself. There's been heavy match-making issues, but I expect these to be sorted out eventually. Still, as of 1 month after release we still have server lag and some players can't connect to a match. That's unacceptable.

Weapons:

The weapons themselves aren't the main problem but there are some major flaws. The recoil is extremely inconsistent. Now I understand this is WW2 weapons we are talking about, but in past COD's you can prepare for the recoil and control it. Recoil here just has a mind of it's own. It's frustrating. The shotguns are completely worthless too.

Maps:

This is genuinely the worst element of the game. We are only given 9 maps to start & an extra few for the War game mode. But this wouldn't matter so much if they weren't so unbelievably the opposite of fun to play. They are cluttered with unnecessary things/objects, have no flow, & are maze-like. Head-glitching is a serious problem. Take a map called U.S.S. Texas for example. Why it fails is the only close quarters you can have are from going up and down a small set of stairs in the central part of the map where all anyone has to do is camp in a corner and wait for you and there's nothing you can do about it. When you're at the top you can camp and spawn kill people from the end of the ship with a long range weapon because of the bad spawns. I feel like I've no idea where I'm going or what to do in the map as there are about 5 different doorways to choose from. Why can't it just be straightforward?

It's like the producers just slapped together a half-arsed, unimaginative attempt and included it into the game. It's impossible to cover yourself and there is just too many openings to get any decent streak going. It's just a random guessing game at times. If you enjoy rushing, it's a nightmare.

Conclusion:

I seen a question online that asked for my top 5 favourite things about COD:WW2. I couldn't think of any apart from there is an option on one of the weapons (the Kar98k) to get iron sights. That. Was. It. If you compare these maps to the other boots on the ground COD's there is no comparison. It amazes me how such a juggernaut like COD can continually mess up a simple product year on year and alienate its own fans. My favourite COD was Call of Duty: World at War and I was really looking forward to this after the disappointments of the futuristic COD's, but it's easily the worst I've played yet.

I'm not a hater/hipster/miserable guy but I found this impossible to like. A generous 2/10.
