A humble beginning!

User Rating: 7.8 | Burnout (Platinum) PS2
The original Burnout is an excellent arcade racer anyone can pick up and play. It doesn't have the flashy stuff of the sequels but the basics started with this game. The race tracks not only have you against 3 AI drivers but they are filled with traffic to will need to avoid. There's also a checkpoint system which gives you another reason to drive like a crazy man. Actually... driving like a crazy man will get you a huge benefit in terms of a boost bar that fills up whenever you : have a near miss, drive in the wrong lane and drifting. Once the bar is full you'll be able to use it, giving you twice the speed! If you continue to do crazy stuff while using the boost you'll have it almost filled up once it's gone.

The graphics are pretty good for 2001... but are easily surpassed by the mighty Burnout 3 and 4. It's still servicable, and the blur effect when you use the boost is quite nice. The crashes look good but it's not the car ragdoll of the other Burnout's.

The music is techno crap which i don't care for. The sound effects are a lot better.

I would recommend this game for anyone who's looking for an arcade racing game. Experienced drivers can finish the championship mode in 4 to 6 hrs. It's worth a try... i'm sure you'll be able to find this game dirt cheap.
