User Rating: 9.6 | Brute Force XBOX
Brute Force is the most beautiful piece of dynamic graphic art that I have ever seen. The sky, the dynamic ground effects with lava, fire, fog and flora are absolutely incredible. The overall setting is visually stimulating and the surface objects are as detailed as they could be without a high resolution monitor. The cut scenes are some of the best I've seen in a game. To me, the environment had more of the original Unreal feel, rather than that of Halo. The combat appears to be just a little more linear and driven than Halo, but the AI seems to make up for it. The “special abilities” are well done and added significantly to the game play. This isn't Halo, but I wasn't expecting Halo (I got bored of killing those darned exploding bubble creatures after a while). I got exactly what the developer promised before delivery...original content with beautiful graphical environments in a third person shooter with some interesting twists. No...Hawk isn't the Master Chief...and the enemies aren't nearly as entertaining but to me, they don't have to be. This game stands on its own and I am sure will garner it's own following and appeal to a slightly different demographic if buyers haven't been put off by the GameSpot review. I have to admit, my 10 year old son and I were completely dazzled by the graphical environment and our opinions definitely reflected and were probably slightly biased by this. I hate to say it, but I have to agree with some others here that there appears to be a definite bias against the XBOX on GameSpot. I have no doubt that if this title premiered on the Playstation, even with a clunky look to it, it would have gotten a 9.8 to a 10.0 and easily garnered an award.
