The best, and most realistic, WW2 game ever made

User Rating: 9.6 | Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 XBOX
I know what you are thinking, “Just another WW2 shooter, right?” Wrong! Story: The single player campaign in Brothers in Arms puts you in the shoes of Sergeant Matt Baker who reluctantly leads a group of 13 men during the invasion in D-Day. It is a real-world eight-day account of what Baker and his squad went through. They are part of the infamous 101st Airborne, also know as “The Screaming Eagles”, they are on mission to disrupt enemy lines so that the 4th Infantry Division can successfully land on Utah Beach They eventually must push deeper into France and take part in the important battle on Hill 30 as well as capture the German occupied town of Carentan. The game takes you through these events day by day. Due to misdrops, you start out alone. Throughout the first few days you will have to find the rest of your men, while completing small (but important) objectives, such as destroying anti-aircraft guns and bridges. Gameplay: Brothers in Arms tries to succeed at being as realistic as possible. And it succeeds in every possible way. In the default settings there is no reticle at all on your screen. So you may decide to shoot from your side without knowing where your shot will go or you could the reticle on your gun where you will slow down and walk while you aim. Some may compare this game to Full Spectrum Warrior but there is a huge difference between them. In Full Spectrum Warrior you only gave orders to your two squads. In Brothers in Arms you do that but you also control your own soldier who is able to shoot, melee attack, throw grenades, duck, jump, and of course give commands to the two squads under his command. To survive in this game you must use both your Fire Team and your Assault Team. You start of the game alone but you quickly find your soldiers and are able to give them orders. Both squads have three people in them, two soldiers and the squad leader. When you give a command Baker will tell them what he wants them to do then the team leader will tell the men under his command. The controls to give your squads orders are very easy to learn. Tapping the white button chooses which squad you will control. Holding the white button down will give that squad the order to follow you. Holding the left trigger and placing the cursor over an enemy unit will tell that squad to fire at them, holding the left trigger and then pushing the right trigger when the cursor is over an enemy squad will make that squad assault the enemy where they will charge them or throw grenades. The Fire Team is better at laying down suppressive fire to pin enemy squads down. The Assault Team is better at charging and killing the enemy. Brothers in Arms is all about using authentic Fire and Maneuver tactics. Where you pin down your enemy with one squad. While your other squad flanks and kills them. Multiplayer: The game can be played online with 2-4 people. Playing online is a lot like playing Single Player except you only control one squad the fire team or the assault team while the other player on your team controls the other. If you only want to do a one on one or one on two the team with one person will command both squads. There is no deathmatch or capture the flag modes in this game only objective based games. Every map in Brothers in Arms has an objective that has to be completed by either the Americans or the Germans while the other army tries to stop them. These objectives range from blowing up bridges and anti-aircraft guns, getting documents to a certain area, or to sneaking around alone as a sniper trying to kill your enemies. Graphics: The graphics are fine for the most part. Characters look realistic, guns firing look right, and explosions are nice. There are a few problems with textures and characters not showing much emotion in their faces. A good looking game but not one of the best. Sound: The sound in this game is amazing. Mortars shake you, bombs and grenades going off near you, the screaming of your soldiers when they are hit, and the sound of you and your fire team leaders all adds to tense situations. All of the guns sound realistic. The voice acting is superb. The music is terrific. There is only one problem, there is a bug in the game that while firing one type of gun even after you stop shooting it, it will continue to make noise like you are still firing. This is very annoying and the only way to fix it is to restart the game. Value: With a great single player with four difficulty levels, unlockables, and an excellent Multiplayer mode this game is worth every penny. The only thing that it is missing is a co-op mode but the sequel to this game will fix that. Difficulty: There are four different difficulty levels to choose from so the game should never be too easy or too hard for anyone. Learning Curve: The controls of the game are easy to get used to. It’s just like playing Halo except the left trigger gives your squad commands and the black button throws grenades. Squad commands are very easy to get used to. Tilt: This is the best and most realistic WW2 game that I have ever played.
