I was a bit disappointed with this game, but it's certainly worth playing.

Well, let's be honest, we were hoping for a lot more out of this game. I had hoped that they would put more depth into the story. However, I still got a lot of enjoyment out of the game itself. It generally plays well, the S.M.A.R.T. mechanic (Smooth Movement Across Random Terrain) is awesome, and the character customization options are almost endless. Let's discuss the game in greater detail.

Story: This was the biggest disappointment for me. They had talked about a really in-depth story experience before the game was released. They talked about a rich, narrative driven story experience. The idea of the story is that humanity has created a city in the middle of the ocean known as the Ark. The Ark was only designed to hold around 10,000 people. Over a million live there. Many of the people live in slums and are starving. The rest live near the founder's tower. The story itself focuses on both the Resistance, that wants to escape the Ark, and the Security forces, who want to save the Ark. Both have their own objectives and ideals. Depending on what part of the story you're focusing on, the outcome appears to be different. However, the story mode is neither deep nor exciting. Playing in Free Mode is entirely the same.

Design: Clearly the stage design and S.M.A.R.T. system were major focuses when they were creating this game, as they pretty much go hand-in-hand. As I said before, S.M.A.R.T. stands for Smooth Movement Across Random Terrain. It allows you to jump over and climb various objects in the stage. A major part of that is selecting what body type you want. The Heavier the body type, the less you can climb over and the slower you can move, but the more guns you can use. The Lighter the body type, the more you can move around, but you will be limited to submachine guns and sniper rifles as your primary weapons, and pistols as your secondary. With my first character, I went with medium, so that I could use assault rifles, a shotgun, and a grenade launcher, and have light primaries as secondaries. Character and weapon customization were heavily focused on in Brink. There are plenty of ways to customize your character and your weapons. Costume options for your character can be unlocked by leveling up, and weapons and attachments can be unlocked by doing simple challenges. This game has the easiest method to unlocking weapons ever. I unlocked every weapon and attachment within 30 minutes, maybe an hour of playing the game. It's not a bad thing, but maybe there should be more weapons or challenges. Or maybe the challenges should be more... challenging.

Gameplay: This is an objective-based game. Every map has different objectives and whether you're attacking or defending is determined by which faction you're playing as. There is a relatively diverse selection of weapons, some are suited for long-range combat, others are suited for close-quarters. With a recent DLC, you can even attach bayonets to your rifles and submachine guns for more damaging melee attacks. The S.M.A.R.T. system allows you to get to a better vantage point for sniping, or getting around and flanking them. However, your enemies can also do the same to you. The AI seems to be good enough to get objectives done and sometimes (emphasis on the sometimes) good enough to defend the objective.

Presentation: To say the least, the game looks good. The art style kind of blurs the line between a cartoon and reality. The backgrounds are well-detailed and the weapons look great. Not much else to say

Overall: 7.5 or 8.0/10
It's not exactly what I hoped it would be, but it's certainly good enough for me.
