BLOCKPOST - A Decent Shooter With Inherent Flaws

User Rating: 7 | BLOCKPOST (Early Access) PC

So... Lets talk BLOCKPOST... The voxel shooting game built with Unity for children and adults alike. Well... Mostly children.

BLOCKPOST itself is a Block 'n' Load remix with graphics that closely resemble Minecraft and Murder Miners combined. The game-play mechanics are actually quite solid, aside from the sometimes buggy movement, gravity, and collision detection. It can be fairly common to get stuck inside of a block and jiggle around the screen, giving you a nice taste of motion sickness. However, Aside from that, the gun-play is great and each individual weapon has its own stats and unique feel in-game.

Overall, the game feels like you are playing a Minecraft Call of Duty mod with decent rank and item progression. Every player starts out with the same loadout in BLOCKPOST. The Vector is your short-mid range small machine gun, the Barreta is the handy dandy sidearm for quick whips, and the shovel is your key to melee success. Aside from weaponry, players have 50 blocks per game that they can use to build cover, structures, and create new angles to help you keep a competitive edge regardless of who has a natural map advantage.

The most hated feature of BLOCKPOST has to be the Pay-to-win game model that the developers decided to use. I can't say I blame them, and to be honest... I dropped some cash into getting new weapons. It was worth it.

All crates can be gained by playing the game. This much is true. Even some keys can be acquired by simply playing. Still, this does not balance out the pay-to-win nature of the game. All keys can be bought straight from the developers to open the many different crates, each containing different weapons to give you that competitive edge.

The crates themselves are all marketed by players, creating a hell of a community economy. Some crates can be bought, but the rest all have to be earned in-game by completing "tasks" that require getting kills with particular weapons or means. Essentially, this means that if you are the only one with a "sniper case" because you were the only person to take the time to get 500 kills with a sniper, then you could choose to sell that case for however much you see fit. Lets just say, $5, because right now the market is completely void.

Overall, I find this game highly enjoyable and somewhat addicting. It seems to be lacking some fundamental traits that could turn this game into a truly wonderful experience. With a little love from the Developers, we could have ourselves a true gem of a game. Skullcap Studios, I tip my hat to you. However, I must also say that I expect a lot more from you and BLOCKPOST. Please don't disappoint your community.
