No Fun League........who needs it....I don't

User Rating: 9.1 | Blitz: The League PS2
This is everything Madden and all other football games aren't. This might just be close to vintage football from the 40's through 60's, but with a combination of todays skilled athletes and technology. Foul mouthed trash talking, dirty hits, illegal substances, tempting cheerleaders, scum higher ups, are just some of the things in this game that will NEVER be seen in an NFL liscensed game.

If your expecting to see your favorite athletes Brady, Manning, T.O., Ray Lewis. Then go somewhere else rookie. This game is all made up individuals. The closest this game comes to a real athlete is two players, Quentin Sands (designed after Lawrence Taylor) and M. Mexico (which is a spoof on Mike Vick's little disease issue evev though Mike called himself Ron Mexico)

Gameplay: at first it seems complicated but first jump into Training Camp and it goes over all the buttons you need to press to learn how to jack someone up and kick their teeth in, when you step on the field you'll realize something is a little different from your conventional football game, there aren't 11 players on each side of the field, theres 8. There are absolutely no penalties. So feel free to deck that wide out so he has no shot at that catch. When on offense the L2 button can slow down time, IF your clash meter has enough stock. Also with clash, when you slow down time, this is when you showcase the cool moves of your players, from the quarter back, running back to WR/TE they all can clash, whether it be a big stiff arm to an ankle breaking juke, or even jumping over that would be tackler, it can be done. But they didn't leave the defense out, they also can clash, with their moves they can shatter a spine, literally. When you clash on defense with a big hit one of three things will happen, a big hit, a big hit which causesa fumble, or a big hit that can cause that much needed or truly devastating injury.

Campaign Mode: Oh boy this gets high praise from me, you start off with the story that your team has basically fallen off the planet, you're in division 3, bottom of the barrel, laughing stock of the league, you're so bad that you're entirely starting over, new team name, new jerseys, new logo, new players, new coaches, and team doctor, all of which you control the choices of, with the players and coaches, and doctors you get three choices in each category, all of which when your finished make interesting combinations, you have two key player choices, your rookie and your veteran, these are the guys that will have more of a story when you play. With unies there are plenty of combinations (i thought so), lots of colors and lots of designs, The logos there are about 40 - 50, 26 of which are the alphabet. oh i almost forgot to mention, you even get three choices of your home stadium. Now you've started your campaign, you can customize your players from their names there weight and number ...except your rookie and veteran understanably since they had to program names for them in the cut scenes. what you can customize about all your players including the rook and vet is what they look like on the field, there gloves, pads, eye black, taped ankles, hair color, facial hair, and tats. The cheerleaders are customizable too, you choose the squad and what they wear, careful don't get too excited, they dance sexy and dress it, but do wear clothes, we all know how much J.T. would freak over nudity. Oh and the squad you choose the girls are designed after real ladies.

Music: Rap, i'm ok with it, i like rap, but i don't like every song released, i like maybe half the songs in the track, they are all pretty tolerable, some i love to listen to some i'll just skip over, by pressing R3 or L3. How it suits the game. Pretty well, the lyrics in some songs can relate to how you should play on the feild in this game.

Perks and beefs: Blitz wasn't just a football game thrown out there, the creators have written a fairly interesting history to the league, it goes all the way back to the late 1800's to today, you can read about the history on the loading screens, which incidentally are my only concern, they are slightly long but not enough to be a royal pain in the ass, the good thing about them being long is that you can read the entire historical fact they diplay on the load time.

Final Judgement: I think it's great, Midway really did not skimp out on this game, they put quality work into this, yeah so they aren't real players but you know what its an interesting twist on how football could be played, but never would, to me it satisfies what i've been lacking when i watch football on sunday or play a madden or 2K game. Big hits, taunting, blood, and four lettered words flying freely.
