A fine game but nothing to write home about

User Rating: 6 | Bleeding Edge XONE

Bleeding Edge is an online multiplayer game pitting teams of 4 against each other in a fight to the death. It was developed by Ninja Theory as an Xbox exclusive following their acquisition by Microsoft. And while the game certainly creates a lot of hope for the future, Bleeding Edge is nothing to write home about.

The game is incredibly bare with only 2 generic modes to play: Control (controlling various points across the map) and Power Collection (collecting power across the map, holding onto it until a point becomes available and then dropping it off at said available point). There are also 12 different characters to play as but they're mostly attackers or tanks, there are very little ranged and healer options. It is interesting to play as the various characters though because they each have their strengths and weaknesses so you do have to tailor your playing to whichever type you choose to play. The maps are also limited to just 5 but they are well detailed and fun to play on. These things are thankfully fixable though through DLC, which I hope will come out quickly and hit players in the wallet.

The gameplay really emphasizes teamwork as just trying to do things alone typically results in a quick death. The characters complement one another and working in a group greatly increases your odds of success. I do find the game to be pretty entertaining to play in that regards and I feel like that is one thing that will really help them moving forward with this game as a potential franchise. I would like to see them tighten up the controls a bit though because they don't necessarily fit well with the fast-pace gameplay.

Overall: 6/10
Is Bleeding Edge worth checking out? Absolutely. Is it going to be a game that you'll end up playing for the long term? Probably not. There just isn't enough content to stop the game from becoming stale far quicker than it should. Unless they manage to put out DLC quickly, They're gonna have a hard time keeping people playing.
