A positive suprise: While Blacksite is not outstanding, it is better than many reviews suggest!

I was really lookinf forward to this game. Being an FPS fan, a graphic fanatic and a SciFi-Geek, this seemed to be the second-choice for an FPS on 360 (after Halo3) - and first choice on PS3. But then I read reviews and got the impression that the game was disappointing, even a failure.

Luckily I got Blacksite for Birthday and after spending a full weekend with it, I must say I am suprised in a positive way. Yes, this game is nothing innovative, nothing outstanding. But many of its elements are on a high level compared to other games: The graphics are sharp (much better than FEAR and Timeshift for example), the voice over and music nicely done, the level design varied and the enemies worthy any SF movie - if not smart.

But hey, this is not supposed to be the Rainbow Six of SF shooters, its a standard, linear, action-packed FPS. The game shifts from fast-paced action to a little exploring and talking - but never gives you the freedom of something like Crysis. For me, however, it doesn't have to. While I played it, I was very entertained, I had a lot of fun. Will I remember it as an outstanding game? No, but I never regretted that I got it.

What keeps this game from being great? Mostly small details, missing links in the story, small AI glitches, some unpolished level-parts. I can imagine with three months time these glitches would have been extinct, but this is all theory.

My conclusion: If you like action-focused, linear SF-shooters, go for this game!
