Captain Video on target

User Rating: 8.5 | Bit.Trip Fate WII
This is another edition to the unique series online and this is my third favorate game in the bunch and I also feel a refreshing throwback to my second favorate sub genere in video gaming the shooter genere which has became under practiced and in slightly short supply.

It's true the dynamics aren't really to different except for the fact that your on the rail which restricts some freedom of movement but trust me it's not hard to dodge and at least you have the freedom to shoot in any direction you want which is one unique thing about the game because it avoids that cleche of merely shooting in one direction all the time, and to nail the enimy behind you have to be right behind to enimy which can be tricky, here you can just simply point and shoot at it without wasting effort. The graphics are very good a slight mix of Atari 2600 like graphic and the modern graphics we have are just a great mixure and create a surreal but cool atmosphere. Control is solid. There are some of the usual weapons and power ups to strengthen both your character and weapons you possess. And they have a good variety of enimies and bosses that are well designed. The game's not that hard but it's not that easy there are some spots that are tricky, like that skull boss which took a bit of practice to finally beat.

As usual the best thing about the series is the music and sound, and as usual it is just beautiful in this game and another part of what makes this shooter unique. I'm busy not just defending myself against my enimies but I'm trying to nail them just to get the best sounds and beats to flow with the music. It's similar like with the game "Rez" which utilized the same dynamic.

I would of given the game a bit more but it's held back by one thing that prevents it from entering the A rank. Even though the game is short but the right length, the levels are a bit too long. Not to say that they boring at all but the length of them really cuts into the momentum and pace of the game. I felt at least two or three minutes could of been edited so the momentum and pace could be maintained.

Other than that the game is fine, it doesn't quite make it to the A rank in the shooter genere it's close but more the B rank and I'm fine with that. Bit. Trip Fate is a soild edition for both the series and the shooter genere, Captain Video is on target.
