An amazing game with an even more amazing atmosphere!
Bioshock is a first-person shooter of sorts. The gameplay is adequate, and seems to do the job.
The most impressive thing about this game is the atmosphere that Rapture provides. The atmosphere is built on the nostalgia of the 50s and 60s, a time period of great change in the United States and the world. This period is where we, as a species, started to really understand the intricacies of what it is to be human. The game takes this idea and runs. It asks the question, what would happen if science didn't necessarily have ethics. How would that world be? That world is rapture where people are free to modify their genetics as they see fit.
Overall, this is just a great game. The game, itself, could not stand on its own with gameplay, but the setting is what boosts the game head and shoulders above other shooters.
