A side scrolling action classic that shouldn't be missed by fans of retro handheld games.

Bionic Commando: Elite Forces is the first game that I ever played on a handheld system. I was impressed with it and feel that it will serve as a template for a good side scrolling Gameboy game by which I compare others. This game does many things very well. For one the sound design and graphics are far beyond what I had expected for a Gameboy Color game. The animation is very smooth and all the enemies have a unique look and move with fluid animations giving them an organic and lifelike feel. The music is pretty good too though not every stage has a unique tune. This game is a throwback to the side scrolling action games that I used to enjoy as a child while playing Sega Genesis and NES and I got a mild feeling of nostalgia as I was treated to a boss or boss like battle at the end of each stage. It was also kind of cool that you didn't have to complete all the stages in order but doing so gives you access to better equipment and you are encouraged to play them in order so that you are given appropriate tips and decoding equipment. The core action in each level makes good use of the varied features available to you via your arsenal of maneuvers and equipment and the progression of difficulty will make it so that you become proficient in all of the tactics necessary to master the game. The save system was a nice addition too and was used well in conjunction with the continue feature. In any case this is a fantastic game that combines side scrolling action and plat-forming in a semi-lengthy adventure. I recommend it to anyone who owns a Gameboy Color or Advance.
