One of the gems of days gone by.

I can remember when I first encountered this game, one a summer afternoon when I was just hooking up what would become the ill-fated Sega Channel. This was one of the games up during that month, and I remember playing the hell out of it. It had the elements of RPG that appealed to me at that age, and had the playability of a game where one could pick up the controller and be off and running in minutes, no heavy textbook-sized manuals or complex combo systems to study in advance.

Playing it years later, Beyond Oasis holds down the solid gameplay and interesting story that it had when I first played it. It is one of the truly underrated masterpieces of the noteworthy Genesis collection. Even the music, although primitive by today's standards of multi-piece orchestral overtures, appeals to the nature of the game. Beyond Oasis is at the same time straightforward and complex, with a storyline that keeps the player hooked into the game.

Fans of old-school gaming owe it to themselves to search the bargain bin for this gem.
