I'm 29, have been playing shooters since COD2 in 2005.. Battlefield fanboy until now.
SUMMARY - Full review below.
- Smaller maps than ever seen in battlefield before lead to a COD arcade type feel.
- Weapons given to AXIS/ALLIES with no rhyme or reason.. IE Germans starting with british sten.
- LACK OF VEHICLES. On vehicle maps there are just 2 tanks and a couple transport vehicles in all.
- Players automatically start as women unless manually changed. 80% of multiplayer fighting female.
- Horrible bugs/texture issues.
- Chat censor is so bad that even normal discussion becomes impossible.
After COD WWII(an abomination) I was so hopeful for a large true to history(as can be in a game) WW2 game. I dreamed of previous Battlefields with massive tank battles across huge maps and this just was not it. Upon entering(after the horrible voice acting and horrible gameplay FORCED entrance that you cannot skip.. You join multiplayer only to find yourself a woman, this has to be manually changed. I don't mind women in combat even though in ww2 of the hundred million+ soldiers only 2000 were women and even then snipers in russia.. But when all the teams in a ww2 game are women and I'm hearing women moaning(not in a good way) and screaming everywhere when they're hit. Then you have all the weapons with reflex sights from the 2000s because I guess teenagers won't play this unless there's gadgets? A 1200rpm MG42 is not good enough without being painted yellow and an Eotech sight? Upon entering the maps you find they are all very bland, great ideas but it seems whoever developed them just copy pasted everything over and over and said "MAP DONE". It just felt lazy and there's no eye candy. The maps are also much smaller(25-75% depending on map) than even the smallest maps from previous battlefields creating the COD arcade effect. If you're still playing at this point then you've noticed the bugs, textures changing on the walls as you pass them, germans running in the air, I even saw a German tank with a turret on top of another. It just came off as sloppy as their map making. But the true nail in the coffin for me was the lack of vehicles. In previous battlefield games we'd have 4-6 tanks + countless transport vehicles and aircraft per team. This game.. 1 tank, 2 transports and 2 planes.. Meaning good luck ever getting a tank or any fun vehicle due to spawn campers who time when a vehicle is spawning. And if you had ideas of dog fights in the sky or massive tank battles in game.. Guess again. The tanks also look goofy.. I saw a british cromwell? Tank and it was the same size as a TIGER tank.. And lastly the chat censor.. In a game where you are encouraged to set enemy soldiers on fire or slit their throats and watch them bleed out.. don't you dare say sh*t.. or damn or nazi or anything even remotely insulting.. even the word moron is censored. It gets to the point where someone says "this gun sucks" and you see in chat(yes sucks in censored..) "this gun *****".
I challenge you to post a polite thread on EA BFV forums about why the game is bad.. I did and my thread was removed and I was banned permenantly. I then noticed many other users threads were being nuked and they too were being banned.(Screw freedom of speech or at the very least letting customers giving constructive criticism.)
I could deal with the SJW/Progressive undertones.. I get black people and women are now a portion of gaming $$$ so history will take a back seat to money(EA is a company). But when they have small maps, no vehicles, blue painted MP40s with reflex sights and then ban customers for giving their opinion in a polite way.. I'm done with EA. Uninstalled origin, got my refund. I'm done with EA.
PS, ever notice how the major games from EA or COD series always get an 8 or a 10 from gamespot meanwhile user reviews are 4 or a 5? NOBODY IS GETTING PAID THERE huh?
