SP review only - Very very enjoyable

User Rating: 9.5 | Battlefield: Bad Company 2 PC
Let's just get this out of the way. I've not played this multiplayer yet. This is a single player review only.

I mention MW2 because this is its obvious rival and game to compare it with.

Firstly the graphics are excellent. Game looks fantastic at all times. The sound is also exceptional, everything from the gun sounds to explosions to effects are executed very well. The only flaw is that occasionally in a small building you get an echo as if you were in a big hall.

The single player campaign has entertaining characterisations and dialogue. The missions are well structured and planned out. I haven't finished the SP campaign yet but it has been very entertaining. Far more entertaining and enjoyable than the MW2 campaign. It has a story which is cohesive and makes sense. Whilst it isn't the most imaginative I've ever seen for a game of this kind it is pretty good. MW2 had more interesting locations and perhaps in some ways a more obtuse and intangling plot. However it did not execute on those locations and scenarios in anywhere near as sublime a way as BF2. Compared to this game MW2 SP feels like one of those old 'shoot the duck' games where ducks just popped out constantly and you aim shoot etc. This game has a kind of combat structure which seems on the surface far more realistic and reasonable.

The destructive enviroments are obviously a big plus and add a diverse range of new dimensions to a game like this.

However the biggest thing this game gets right is the gunplay. The gun mechanics are fantastic, the guns feel incredibly good to use, very satisfying. Killing is also very satisfying and the combat scenarios and enviroments are plausible and realistic. This for me is the biggest thing. This is where this game really blows MW2 away. It is so much better I am astonished.

Anyway I highly recommend this game, it is comfortably the best 'modern warfare' game I have played.

Although I haven't played it yet I suspect the multiplayer will be considerably superior to MW2 also. The maps, destructive enviroments and awesome gun play/mechanics mean it surely can't fail.
