"Nothing special, but at least it's a GameCube RPG."

User Rating: 7.2 | Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance GC
Fan's of Blizzard's Diablo and Diablo II will find this role-playing adventure looks similar, and generally plays in the same manner. These similarities aside, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is not a bad attempt at a hack and slash role playing game for Nintendo's GameCube console. The controls are simple and intuitive, and the learning curve is small. However, there are several problems that prevent Dark Alliance from really shining. The first of these is the aiming issue. When playing as the Dwarf warrior this isn't really an issue, since he is a pretty dedicated melee character. The archer and sorceress however, can be difficult to utilize properly, since rotating the character just the right amount to hit a moving target can sometimes get frustratingly difficult. Don't be surprised if you begin forgoing the use of magic or arrows for swords and maces. Also, the storyline for Dark Alliance is decidedly weak. This makes the game seem more like a hack and slash level progression than an actual role playing game. Still, in the RPG dessert that is the GameCube console, Dark Alliance is still a welcome addition to the role player's library.
