One of the Greatest Games of all Time

User Rating: 10 | Baldur's Gate 3 PC

A lot has happened for Baulder's Gate 3 in the three years it was in Early Access.

Now a critical darling, with the 8th highest congruent player count in Steam History, this game juggles player choices and fantasy-based sandbox puzzle solving. Using cinematic closeups for all dialogue in the game, save for side chatter while world exploring, this game has some of the most profound explorations I've ever encountered in a game. It reminds me of playing Neverwinter Nights for PC the first time.

How they managed to shove 12 levels of lore and tabletop-accurate spells into a virtual recreation of dynamic tabletop Campain has and should be turning heads. You've heard stuff like there are 17,000 different endings; this game tracks everything you do and manages at a level few games or stories, for that matter, ever achieve, giving weight and meaning to all of your choices by the end.

I could go on about the complexity of its characters or the first time I played a solo campaign separate from my friends and discovered entirely new plotlines in the same areas just by making one or two slightly different choices. This is one of those scarce games begging you inside to come back and play one more time, see one more way of doing things, approach a problem, a person, a situation, and you can, and it will impress you. Still, as improperly, it will often surprise you.

GOTY by a long strait mile, and one of the finest video games I have in the 33 years I've been gaming (I've been gaming since I was three, thank you, Mario) ever had the honor of enjoying.
