The newer edition of the Backyard Sports titles leave a lot to be desired. Backyard Football 2008 for the DS is right up there with the worst games in video game history, really, I'm not kidding. The most fun my son and I had with that game was returning it. While Backyard Football 2008 for the PS2 is better, more fun and more engaging, the gameplay and glitches just makes this game disappointing and below average. Now, Backyard Basketball 2007 is an average basketball game that kids MAY enjoy. Keyword, MAY. It is like a kid version of the old NBA Jam series with a lot less going on. There is some fun stuff, especially when playing with my son. The power-ups are there, but not as fun as in the older titles of the series. A two player game is a lot more fun than single player action. My son, soon to be 4, can pick it up and play it right away. He is a sharp kid. Backyard Basketball 2007 has its moments and can be fun at times. The graphics, sound and announcing are sub-par. Rent it first and see if you and your kids might enjoy it. This new generation of Backyard sports titles makes me long for the older versions.
