Good game overall, but could be better.

This game had a lot of potential, at first.

I started playing this with high hopes and expectations. Turns out it's okay, but could be better.

The leveling up, synth and money systems make no difference, gameplay wise. It seemed to me that the devs were randomly throwing cool ideas on the mix, but the blend became rather inconsistent. It's not satisfying to rack up lots of exp. As a matter of fact, I didn't even realize I was leveling up. You eventually will get some or other skill, but there are only one or two that are actually usable (Lux Calibur and Galvanic Renewal), since the relevant ones use a lot of SP.

Also, towards the end, especially the ending itself, it seems like they ran out of ideas. Along those lines, some bosses are a bit uninspired (Nova final form, I'm looking at u)

The gameplay is very interesting. You earn points by tagging enemies and performing some actions like Double, Triple and Aerial kills, which leads to intriguing tactical advance through stages.

The translation of the dialogues is pretty funny and they've managed to keep it pretty informal (too much sometimes). Also, I believe they've captured the essence of those dialogues, since a lot is usually lost when translating.

When it comes to character development, that's when they've messed up. The interpersonal relationship was shallow and they could have focused a bit more on that. The relationship between QUILL members and Gunvolt was too scarce and so was the one with Lumen and Gunvolt. Maybe they were planning to do that on a sequel, so I'll let them have the benefit of doubt.

The game is short, so they tried to compensate that with some pointless challenges. It's a decent system, but I can't shake the feeling that they were lazy designing the story and, instead of adding a bit more of bulk to the plot, they just tried to disguise the lack of depth with this system of challenges. I've said this before and I'll emphasize it: the game gets rushed towards the ending.

It's, overall, a fair, interesting and unique game. You should definitely give it a try, especially if you manage to get a good discount when buying it.
