This is what a Dragonball Z game should be made to play like

User Rating: 6.5 | Asura's Wrath PS3
Let me start by saying this game is the only good Dragonball Z game I've ever played, and it's not DBZ at all. Asura's wrath takes the story of the demi-god Asura (loosely of course) and blends it with mecha and anime inspired combat and visual design. The game itself plays much like an anime series, there are 3 main episodes and within those episodes there are many chapters, each that cuts for a commercial break (these are chapter based save points) and return to the gameplay when the next chapter is selected. The combat is fluid, despite the lack of a real combo system, and relies on the bare minimum of commands from the player.

I think the best thing about Asura's Wrath is that it's simplicity denotes how seamlessly the game plays, there's no lag (based on my time with the PS3 version), the QTE (quick time events) give ample time and award the player for completion, and the in battle burst systems blend effortlessly back to in-game cutscenes. The cutscenes themselves are interactive at most points, allowing for the activation of the afforementioned QTE events and also for burst events. The story is engageing for any fan of anime like Bleach or DBZ, with different power levels and energy build-ups to fight stronger enemies, but the story is also rewarding. At one point, despite being a head strong berserker, Asura realizes that his immense power isn't even enough to save a little girl.

The game is a lot of fun, very similar to Devil May Cry, but far less complex. The action is fast paced and hectic, but not uncontrollably so. An excellent game, with very few faults despite being short and incredibly easy for a capcom action game. I would recommend it to kill a day or two of boredom, but not at the $60 dollar new game mark.

Long story short, a fun and seamless game, but wait for the bargain bin or a good used game price.
