Asteroids was a great game but Asteroids Hyper 64 doesn't expand upon it enough to make it worth owning. Basicly you get colorful backrounds and 3D graphics to make the game look nice. The extra gimmicky additions actually end up detracting from the game in the end. I often found that the new graphics in the backround made it confusing sometimes to determine threats from simple effects. The title lacks substance, longevity, and effort. I found myself having more fun with the original arcade game than I did here with this update. Even so the game did entertain me quite a bit more than it probably should have. I didnt mind playing it for the first day. When it comes down to it this game wasn't worth owning on release and its not worth owning today.
At a first glance, Asteroids 64 looks like it would be a Starfox 64-esque type of shooter, where the relationship it has with it's 1980s father is that you are in a spaceship, or at least that is what I hoped. How gu... Read Full Review
