Unfinished, unpolished, uninspired.

Gameplay

The game was clearly rushed, it is ridden with bugs. Several times I feel through the floor, combat is fun but filled with bugs, the sword wouldn't hit my opponent (even though it did dmg), bodies would go through the buildings, I got stuck in the middle of the air, etc. The game is not well put together, all the horsepower of the PS4 goes to waste, as sudden drastic drops of FPS are a common occurence. The experience feels choppy and not at all fluid. Parkour is a nightmare many times, the character rarely goes where I want him to, or lands in the middle of the guards I was trying to sneak past.

That being said, it has great potential. The killing animations with the katana (and weapons in general) were quite awesome, and when the game works right combat is really what shines. It's a lot harder than the past AC's. The new engine has a lot of potential. Still, they missed the goal on this one.

Microtransactions, and the "Legendary Armor" present in all AC games reduced to a simple vanity item, drop the score even further. 6/10

Story

Utter crap. Uninspiring in present times (which you don't play, just experience it through cutscenes) and past times. I didn't feel at all involved with the revolution, or the assassins, or anyone for that matter, except Elise. Arno is an ok character but nothing extraordinary. A few fun moments, mainly with Elise (did I mention that she is the only interesting character in the whole game?). The ending though is UTTER BULLSHIT and ruined the entire game for me, I literally want to peddle my copy for some bucks and buy a cheeseburger or something along those lines. It's so bad it made me NEVER want to play this game again. Depressing.

Graphics

Pherhaps the (only?) strong point of this game. Beautiful enviorments, Paris is gorgeous and very well put together, a massive city, teemed with life, massive crowds, places to explore. 10/10

Conclusion

If you want a tour of Paris in the times of the Revolution, this is the game for you. The Bastille, Notre Dame, the Palais de Justice, are all present and very well made. However, If you want an epic story, with fun combat and a satisfying conclusion, you might want to skip this one. I am a long time AC fan and this game left me utterly dissapointed. They release an unfinished product relying solely on their series past success for sales, with bland storywriting and an unoptimized experience. They've lost a long time fan here. I read somewhere that Ubisoft is the new EA and I'll be damned if that isn't the feeling I'm left with after this game. I hope they crash and burn this time around, and learn from their mistakes. Internet is filled with rants against this game and they are all correct, and well deserved, this game is not at all what we expected, not half of what it could've been with a few more months of polishing. Though the crap story, the entire script has to be burned and re-written.

My advice? Skip this game, grab a copy of Dragon Age Inquisition and pretend Unity never existed. You might enjoy the experience somewhat but at the end you will be left with a bitter taste in your mouth. It's just not worth pulling through the bugs and errors to be completely dissatisfied with the entire plot and ending.

PS: Someone fire the Ubisoft writers...or mail them a giant container of Prozac. Jesus guys, what the hell is wrong with you?
