A worthy sequel to the series.

User Rating: 9 | Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood PC

Assassin's Creed was initially launched as a gamble due to a plethora of new mechanics involving procedural platforming and the inclusion of a concept based on metaphysics making the developers unsure on whether to continue the series or to call it a day on the first one. The first installment went with mixed reviews mainly because of its repetitive missions and an overall structure so bogged down with familiarity that clashed against its beautiful sand-box nature with cutting-edge visuals and a nice story.

With the release of the second game however, the whole series started to bloom on its own. A historical game franchise with over the top action and believable characters was then born. And as Ubisoft continues the story with a new sequel, it continues to even move forward with gusto.

AC Brotherhood starts out well just right after the final events of its predecessor and brings out a new story in the life of the fraternity and its infamous hero - Ezio Auditore da Firenze. Now grizzled and slightly old, Ezio remains just as he did in the last game in terms of his character and personality, but the story more focused on their struggle for the apple and the fight against the Borgias and less than the focus on Ezio's own personal life. This may bring a fresh approach to certain fans of the series. The audio elements are always top of the line. From the environmental effects to the clashing of the swords, Brotherhood never fails to deliver realism to its audience. Some elements have been improved and some were added. The economy system works better now that you have banks for withdrawal of money and the ability to renovate establishments for a larger income. The addition of a horse transportation is a very nice addition now that you can travel long, grassy distances much more quickly and with a little taste of immersion in that sense. On the combat aspect, multiple kill streaks bring a continuing pace of action noting that in the past, Ezio has to wait after each counter kill for a guard to strike at him for another flashy kill. The three-year envied weapon made an appearance for the first time in this game. Now that the crossbow has been added, stealth has never been tasted this good and fast. The audio elements are always top of the line. From the environmental effects of a well-recreated city of Rome, to the clashing of its digital swords, Brotherhood never fails to deliver realism in terms of sound to its audience. The addition of horse transportation is a very nice addition as well since you can now travel long, grassy distances much more quickly with a little taste of immersion in that sense.

On the combat front, multiple kill streaks bring a continuing pace of action, noting that in the past Ezio has to wait after each counter kill for a guard to strike at him for another flashy kill. The three-year envied weapon made an appearance for the first time in this game. Now that the crossbow has been added, stealth has never tasted this good - and fast.

Above all these new arrivals, the presence of other recruits stands out the most. Now, Ezio has students under him that can act as aids in his battles and quiet assassinations. This new system works out very well considering that its only a button away and really brings out an immediate sense of connection between you and the game.

This franchise never fails to impress its targets including yours truly. Here's hoping that through time, AC: Brotherhood would be remembered as one of the most well-written and constructed works to be produced in the gaming industry.
