Comments

The Spicy Pepper is probably one of the most important items in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. A single one of these can spell the difference between survival or death in certain areas of the game. Here's our guide to help you farm more Spicy Peppers in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

How to farm Spicy Peppers in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Spicy Pepper item has one particular use: you'll gain warmth and, essentially, resistance to the harsh cold temperatures. You'll learn about this mechanic soon enough while exploring the Great Sky Island starting area. There are snow-capped sections leading to Gutanbac Shrine where the temperature would drop, causing Link to shiver. Then, in just a few seconds, his health would slowly get depleted.

There are, however, a few downsides. First, you'll only find a few of these plants as you're roaming around. Then, much later, you'll head to regions with freezing temperatures (i.e. the entirety of Hebra and some portions of Gerudo). It can lead to a situation where you need cold resistance food, but you forgot where all those Spicy Peppers were.

Thankfully, there's a faster method to farm more Spicy Peppers in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. First, you have to acquire the Purah Pad Camera and Sensor+ upgrades. These come from Robbie, a researcher whom you'll meet in Lookout Landing. The former is handed to you in the Chasm and the latter is given a bit later in Hateno Village. You can learn more in our Purah Pad Camera and Sensor guide.

Now, assuming you have those, here's what you need to do:

  • Find any Spicy Pepper - Find any Spicy Pepper that's growing or, better yet, just drop one from your inventory.
  • Take a picture of it - Hold the L button and select the Camera function. Make sure the Spicy Pepper nameplate appears, then press A to take a photo. It should then be added to your Compendium.
  • Open your world map and press the Y button to open the Compendium for the Sensor. Browse through the materials options and select the Spicy Pepper. This makes the item your active Sensor target.

With that in mind, you'll see radar details in the bottom-right corner of your screen. This will tell you the general direction of the node/farmable spot. You'll also hear a ping that beeps faster as you get closer.

The Purah Pad's Sensor will tell you if you're close to Spicy Pepper nodes.

From there, simply roam around collecting Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Spicy Pepper items. This time, though, you have the Sensor aiding you along the way. The area surrounding Gutanbac Shrine happens to have the most nodes, allowing you to obtain around 30 of these in just a few minutes. There are others, too, such as in the central area and some spots in Hyrule. Don't forget that these types of resources will respawn after a few days pass in-game.

One more thing of note is that you'll want to cook Spicy Peppers in a pot to make a food/meal, as opposed to roasting them on an open fire. Spicy Sauteed Peppers (i.e., one to five of these), or Spicy Peppered Steak (i.e., combined with a type of meat), will provide more healing and increased warmth duration.

Lastly, there are other elixirs and items that can give increased cold resistance. Examples include the Archaic Warm Greaves various armor pieces sold by vendors in Rito and Gerudo. Use these in conjunction with Spicy Pepper food to ward off even the harshest of freezing temperatures.

There are numerous mechanics and facets to learn in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. For more information, you can visit our guides hub.
