Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom - Mucktorok Boss Guide

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Mucktorok boss is a tiny creature that's as ugly as sin. It's also one of the most annoying encounters in the game if you're not prepared. Here's our guide to help you defeat Mucktorok in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

How to beat Mucktorok in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Mucktorok boss will be your foe once you're done with the Lanaryu Water Temple Puzzle. This fight will make use of Sidon's abilities, with his Water Bubble that negates one instance of damage, and a means of casting a water projectile to clean the sludge.

The tiny thing called Mucktorok is your main target, but it also rides a Sludge Shark. It will circle the arena for a few seconds before doing these types of attacks:

• Jawsy Chomp - It will beeline for Link in a straight line.
• Slimer Beam - Shoots a beam of sludge that tracks you.
• Fishy Flop - Jumps up into the air, crashing down and causing gunk to spread outward.
• General hazard: Sludge/gunk - The patterns themselves are easily recognizable, but you do need to be wary of the sludge/gunk, as that will slow down your movement and prevent you from jumping. This can be cleansed via Sidon's Water Bubble when used as a projectile, but there's an ideal weapon for that (which we explain below).

The best weapon type to use when fighting Mucktorok

We recommend using a spear weapon when fighting the Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Mucktorok boss. This is because, when used in conjunction with Sidon's Water Bubble, it shoots out a projectile in a straight line, and it travels further, too. As such, you can just hold ZL to keep focused on the shark's movements. Then, when it's about to do any ability, just do any normal attack. The water projectile should hit it.

Doing damage to Mucktorok and dealing with Phase 2

When the shark gets stunned, Mucktorok will run around. Shoot it with an arrow to stun it as well. This will allow you to smack it around with your melee weapon. If you only have a few spears, make sure you switch to something else for regular DPS. Save the spear for the shark stuns that you need to do.

As for phase 2, this happens once the boss is down to 50% HP. The shark's attack patterns are retained, with a couple of notable additions:

• Globules of Gunk - Blobs of icky slime will drop in various sections of the arena. Not only will you take damage if you're directly hit, but they'll also cover most of the arena that it becomes hard to move around.
• Muckto-Mastery - During the first phase, Mucktorok just runs around aimlessly. In the second phase, however, it will jump around the sludge, making it harder to hit.

We have a few suggestions:

• Use the Hydrant Zonai Device if you have enough to spare. You can place them around the arena so they can wash away the gunk quickly.
• Attach Bomb Flowers to your arrows. If you can't land a direct hit, at least you can do some AoE damage.
• Lastly, if you already defeated Colgera to acquire Tulin's Wind Burst, you can use something that will launch you into the air (i.e. Zonai Fans or a shield + Spring fuse combo). While in mid-air, aim with your bow to slow down time, allowing you to get a clear shot. Then, before you drop down, use Wind Burst to bypass the sludge and reach the stunned Mucktorok faster.

With a bit of luck, you should be able to defeat the Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Mucktorok boss. This will complete the Lanayru/Zora's Domain quest chain. Sidon will also grant you his vow, allowing you to make use of Water Bubble during your travels.

Don't forget to advance further into the campaign by finishing the other regional main quests. You'll be visiting Gerudo, Hebra, and Eldin.
