The first footage from the much-anticipated adaptation of the Vertigo comic series Y: The Last Man has been revealed. It can be seen in a new teaser for upcoming shows on FX on Hulu, one of the many channels included with Hulu.

The footage is extremely brief. A logo for the show appears, followed by scenes of chaos on the streets of a city, as a voiceover says, "it's spreading fast. It's everywhere." There are also fleeting shots of stars Diane Lane (Batman v Superman) and Olivia Thirlby (Dredd). You can see it at the 26 second mark in the video below:

The series is based on Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra's comic, and is set in a world decimated by a disease that wipes out everyone with a Y chromosome. Ben Schnetzer (Warcraft) plays Yorick Brown, the last human male on Earth, and the cast also includes Ashley Romans (NOS4A2) and Juliana Canfield (Succession). Eliza Clark (The Killing) is the showrunner.

The series has been in development for a long time. Back in 2008, DC veteran David S. Goyer was set to produce a movie adaptation, but this was cancelled before filming could start. Further attempts were made in 2012 and 2023 to get a film off the ground, and in 2018, it was announced that the comic would instead be adapted for TV.

Original showrunners Mashaka Croal and Michael Green were fired after the pilot was finished, with Clark announced as replacement in June 2019. The series doesn't have a confirmed premiere date yet, but with production finally starting back in October last year, it's likely to arrive later this year.
