Just days after Microsoft temporarily cut the price of its Xbox One in the UK, which for the first time made it cheaper than the PlayStation 4, Sony appears to have responded with its own promotional discount.

On Amazon, a new PS4 bundle complete with FIFA 15 can be purchased for £330, which makes it £20 cheaper than a standalone PS4 console. The move comes quickly after Microsoft began selling Xbox Ones with a copy of Sunset Overdrive for £330.

The PS4 and FIFA bundle is likely a response to Microsoft's competitive pricing of its console, which initially cost £425 when it first launched in the UK in November, but undercut PS4 for the first time this week.

In a statement sent to GameSpot on Tuesday, a Microsoft spokesperson suggested its discount deal was temporary.

“We are always looking at ways to offer the best value for our customers," the corporation said.

"This is a UK-only retail promotion which coincides with our upcoming releases including Forza Horizon 2, Sunset Overdrive and Halo: The Master Chief Collection.”

PlayStation 4 is the most popular console in the UK by a noticeable margin, though the Xbox One is also selling well. More than one million PS4s have been sold in the UK alone already.
