Xbox One contains non-replaceable hard drive

I think people are not using there heads and looking at the whole picture here. Play a game on an external device will make loading time and data transfers slower, yet why do that? Say you buy a game and download it to your hd, you bought it, its now yours, play it, when your done you can transfer it to your external hdd or delete it. If you delet itand want to play later redownload it, from the cloaud, external, or the disk, you can play immediately and not have to wait for it to finish downloading. Another ootion, which is the same really is to put your older games to external and current to internal, when your done transder it off your internal until you need it again, this way you can always play games from internal hdd and us external or cloud to keep your luggage until you need it.

no big deal since usb 3 drives can be super awesome, just hook an ssd up OMGOSH mindblown.

I was expecting this. Especially considering that single-layer Blu-rays can hold up to 50GB of data (and most current-gen PS3 games use about 25GB). That 500GB is going to fill up real quick. Mandatory installs was a bad move.

Here is where it begins. $20 difference between 500Gb and 1Tb, and microsoft starts cutting. Noone thinks of the data transfer speed and how HD movies need more then USB3 can transfer. So we start the issues on more space. Save games, movies, TV shows. Space goes quickly, external drives lack speed, at times performance and need additional powerpoints. In stead of opting for an upgrade drive for intense users (not saying that MS should just supply it). This is only the first of many issuesto come, whilst Microsoft arranges party lines with its marketing to spin answers. A not so fine beginning Microsoft!

On the plus side any USB hard drive will hook up to it to expand it so it's not like they aren't giving you a legit way to boost the storage.

Microsoft again learning the wrong things from Apple. Taking their approach to designing CONSUMER appliances to a product designed primarily for consumption by a tech savvy, freedom loving gaming crowd is completely assinine. And this on a system where game installation is mandatory.

If I had to do all that, why wouldn't I just get a high-end PC with a huge hard drive instead. I'm sure next-gen games are going to be super easy to port, considering the nature of both the PS4 and XBox hardware.

Lol, that 500 Gb harddrive first of all loses space to house the software running the device (as stated on their website) AND is also used for all other media functions (pause live tv and other recording functions for instance). No way that leaves space for 30 bluray games that need to be fully installed. What a piece of junk !

So can we add on any external hard drive we want, or will we be forced to buy one made exclusively for the X-Box One? Something tells me that this will be anything but convenient, especially for my wallet.

Seriously, 500 gig isn't that much by modern standards. Imagine what it will be like five years from now?

I have never tried to replace a hard drive. I am so technologically incompetent I would probably screw something up. On top of that, I am too lazy to even attempt it. Anyway this is total BS and I don't know why MS would think it's not. So from what I take is if your HD fills up you will basically need what amounts to a memory card in order to save what you already have. If that is correct, then this is BS.

Is the Wii U so bad after listening to all that MS has to offer with their future console ? LOLOLOL I think not.

What no one is talking about is how an external hard drive has worse performance than an internal hard drive. Anything installed on an external hd will load slower than the internal. This includes games...so once you max out your internal, get ready for longer load times. This is a performance compromise and totally unacceptable when you consider how cheap internal hard drives are.

Come on Microsoft, you're a COMPUTER company! The Xbox one is the first system where it's performance decreases once you max out your hard drive...welcome to next gen!

Just reading those comments is giving me headaches. The words are there for something, READ THEM! Goddammit, they just said an external Hard Drive will work just fine, those things ships at 500 GB MINIMUM the biggest I've seen was 5 TB, a full game is around 5 GB, good luck on filling that up (5 TB is around 5000 GB for those who just dont know how these fancy interweb stuff works)

My PS3 came with an 80gb, and I quickly upgraded to a 500gb. Some have even fit 750gb, and 1tb drives into their console.

My main concern with this is the included HD size. A single, maxed out Blu-Ray game is mighty big. So basically we will be able to install, tops, say, 40-60 games?
