Recoton announced today that it will jointly develop an Xbox headset with Microsoft that will be compatible with speech recognition technology. Called the Xbox Communicator, the headset will allow players to speak with each other while playing online games via the Xbox's built-in broadband capabilities. The Xbox Communicator will be available with the launch of the Xbox's online network in the spring of 2002. The headset will be sold under the Microsoft brand.

Todd Holmdahl, general manager, Xbox hardware, stated, "This revolutionary voice recognition product will help make the Xbox online gaming experience an extremely positive one. We needed to work with OEM suppliers that could match the high quality control level we hold ourselves to at Xbox, and based on past performance, we knew that STD would meet those standards.''
