World Of Warcraft On Console Might Have Some Renewed Hope

World of Warcraft is one of the most popular games of all time, but the MMO has never made the jump to console like others have before it. Blizzard still has no announced plans to bring WoW to console, but a senior developer for WoW has now said Blizzard is "pretty well positioned" to do it.

WoW's vice president and executive producer, Holly Longdale, told GamesRadar that she doesn't necessarily agree that WoW has too many technical logistics and complexities to transition to console.

"Well, it depends on who you ask. I don't think it is, frankly. I think we're pretty well positioned, which is kind of why we talk about it," Longdale said. "It's a complicated question. For a console audience, the approachability is likely going to be different."

Currently, Blizzard is focusing on its ambitious three-expansion plan, the Worldsoul Saga. However, Longdale said the team could "reexamine things" in regards to a potential WoW console port sometime later down the track.

"We've got these three expansions and we are so excited about them. But, yeah, of course. It would be very insincere to say that we're not, like… of course we're talking about that," she said. "We are Microsoft now."

Longdale is referring to how Blizzard is now part of Microsoft following the Xbox giant's $68.7 billion buyout of Activision Blizzard. Longdale said Blizzard has not had any conversations yet about potentially bringing WoW to console or adding it to the Game Pass for PC catalog.

Other MMOs that have made the jump from PC to console have included titles like The Elder Scrolls Online, DC Universe Online, and Final Fantasy XIV, among others. There are reportedly plans to bring The Lord of the Rings Online to console.

As for WoW, the game originally launched in 2004, so it's approaching its 20th anniversary. The next expansion, The War Within, is coming in Fall 2024.
