Affected account owners who are not using the Blizzard Authenticator are in the process of being emailed with details on how to reset their account. World of Warcraft customer support will restore in-game gold and items on affected accounts upon request, Blizzard adds.

Writing on Battle.net, Blizzard says that no method of account security is guaranteed, but that passwords should be regularly changed.

"At this time we have no reason to believe that accounts currently using an authenticator are at risk," added a Blizzard customer service representative.

In response to the situation, Blizzard has taken the World of Warcraft mobile armory application offline temporarily. Blizzard says the website bug was fixed on Monday.
