Wild Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning CinemaCon Footage Shows Surprisingly Funny Car Chase

The clip gave a long look at what looks like one of Mission: Impossible's most epic action sequence ever.

Though none of the cast or crew of Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One was around for Paramount's presentation at CinemaCon on Thursday, attendees were treated to quite a surprise anyway: a 20-minute chunk of the movie.

We should stress, however, that this is not the opening sequence of the film. And so be warned: The descriptions of the clips below could contain spoilers for Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One.

The sequence began with Hayley Atwell's character, Grace, being held in a police interrogation room and questioned about her identity. She claims to be a school teacher. (She isn't.) Fortunately for her, Ethan Hunt is pretending to be her lawyer, and is gonna break her out.

But there's also a bad guy on the prowl. Esai Morales, who plays the main villain of the film as far as we know, is pretending to be an Interpol officer, trying to get a key he thinks Grace might have had when she was arrested, and generally being scary and threatening.

And then it's time for action. Another group of bad guys have arrived, led by Guardians of the Galaxy star Pom Klementieff, and Ethan and Grace have to fight their way out of the station before beginning an epic car chase.

It's a classic sort of car chase for the franchise, which means Ethan and Grace are handcuffed to each other for much of it, and they go through a remarkable number of different vehicles, from a police motorcycle to a police car to a tiny, suped-up Fiat. A funny choice, considering Klementieff's character is driving a large SUV. But that's intentional--the chase is jokier than you might expect from this franchise, like when both our heroes and their pursuers go flying down a long flight of steps.

Unfortunately, the presentation ended before the sequence did, so we don't yet know how the chase ends.

Before they showed off the extended chase sequence, the CinemaCon were also treated to a new trailer for the film, which gave them a bit of a better look at the much-publicized motorcycle jump Cruise makes off a cliff that we saw parts of in previous trailers.

Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One underwent an extraordinarily lengthy production schedule, since it was supposed to film in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic upended pretty much all production in Hollywood. But it will finally land in movie theaters this summer, on July 14.
