Why CoD: Warzone's Massive Resurgence Mode Just Underwent A Big Change For The Haunting

Activision explains why it made such a major change to one of Warzone's modes.

As part of Call of Duty's The Haunting event, Activision brought back the "Massive Resurgence" battle royale mode in Warzone. It increases the player count from 100 to 150, but developer Infinity Ward quickly scaled it back to 100 players. The studio has now explained why.

In a post on X/Twitter, Infinity Ward said Massive Resurgence with 150 players felt "a bit too chaotic" for players. The Haunting added a number of spooky elements to battle royale, and 150 players instead of 100 did not provide enough "breathing room" for players to "experience all The Haunting has to offer," Infinity Ward said.

The reduced player count will remain in place for the entirety of The Haunting, which runs through November 6. After that, when things are back to normal, Infinity Ward will boost the player count back up to 150.

The Haunting is Call of Duty's Halloween event, and it has a lot of spooky stuff. Players have discovered the fake alien shown to Mexico's congress and can unlock an item for Diablo IV by defeating an enemy in Warzone.

Players can also now collect the souls of other players and use them to unlock a variety of Halloween-themed rewards. Check out GameSpot's The Haunting guide to learn more.

Call of Duty's next big release is Modern Warfare III, which launches on November 10. The game's campaign mode will be playable beginning November 2 for people who preorder.
