Watch Pedro Pascal Play Mario In The Last Of Us Spoof
Rainbow Road has never looked worse for wear than in this SNL skit.
Move over, The Last of Us. Saturday Night Live thinks HBO should tackle another video game property for prestige TV: Mario Kart. And who better to lead this spoof series than Joel actor Pedro Pascal?
SNL has released the HBO Mario Kart trailer on YouTube, which parodies the grittiness of The Last of Us and pairs it with Rainbow Road. Pascal--who hosted the NBC show over the weekend--portrays Mario. He's tasked with smuggling Princess Peach this time, and the two come across some familiar Mushroom Kingdom favorites.
Their first stop in the trailer pays homage to Luigi's Mansion, where Mario's brother is found. Luigi also gives the audience the breakdown on the new scary Goombas. They seem similar to the Clickers in this SNL spoof.
The Mario Kart parody also introduces Yoshi and Toad to the party. Toad, sadly, doesn't last long in the video. Mario thinks he can dodge a red shell while driving, but Toad knows that's nigh impossible out on the road.
The villain is, of course, Bowser, portrayed by Kenan Thompson. He's voiceless in the digital skit, though we do see him puffing on a cigar and driving a go-kart.
This isn't the only goofy thing Pascal did with SNL about video games. The Joel actor also twerked with a Clicker in a promotional video for the show. They danced to the song, "Big Energy," by Latto, Mariah Carey, and DJ Khaled.
As for the actual HBO series, the fifth episode of The Last of Us will premiere this Friday, February 10, to avoid competing with the Super Bowl on Sunday.
