We're now just about two weeks away from the launch of Wasteland 2. If you're unfamiliar with the series--understandable, given that the first Wasteland was released in 1988--a new trailer has been released today that provides a good look at what combat is like, as well as what kind of character customization is possible.
The 7-minute video starts out by creating a new, heavy-weapons-using character. You can see some of the types of skills you can equip characters with, as well as the fact that you can select something as minor as what he or she smokes. From there, weapon modding is shown off before the characters head out into the world and get into a few different fights. In the process, you can get a look at how the cover system works.
It's a decidedly old-school game, and one made possible thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2012 that raised nearly $3 million. Wasteland 2 has been on sale through Steam Early Access for some time, and developer InXile Entertainment recently announced it will finally be released in full on September 19.
Wasteland 2's development is being led by Brian Fargo, who worked on the original Wasteland before going on to make Fallout, which was a spiritual successor to Wasteland. For more on the game, check out our Early Access review from earlier this year.
