"Hardcore So-Cal noir."

Hulu is reviving the cult hit Veronica Mars, and has just given some of the first story and production details. Star Kristen Bell is coming back to reprise the lead role, and creator Rob Thomas will executive produce and write the first episode. It's set to premiere on the streaming service in 2019.

Rolling Stone reports that this eight-episode season will center around a serial killer stalking the citizens of Neptune, California. The parents of one of the victims hires Mars investigations to find their son's killers, and the central mystery "pits the enclave's wealthy elites, who would rather put an end to the month-long bacchanalia, against a working class that relies on the cash influx that comes with being the West Coast's answer to Daytona Beach." Thomas described it on Twitter as "hardcore So-Cal noir" with "one big case" to solve.

Now Playing: The First - Official Trailer | Hulu Original

In case you're not quite versed on Veronica Mars yet, Hulu will give you the opportunity to catch up next summer. All three seasons along with the 2014 Veronica Mars movie will be available to stream, presumably ahead of the new revival season which doesn't have a premiere date yet.

News of the revival broke last month, while the deal was still being struck. At the time, details were still being sorted out. Bell would need to be available for both the new Hulu series and her starring role on NBC's The Good Place. Bell herself confirmed the news on Instagram.
