Venom: Here's A Close Look At The Marvel Character In The New Movie
That's a lot of teeth.
Venom is still a few months out from hitting theaters around the globe, and fans are finally getting a better look at the upcoming Sony movie, featuring a Marvel character, that does not take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Movie rights can be confusing.
Recently, Entertainment Weekly revealed a couple of shots from the movie, and one of these images is a close-up of the titular character himself, Venom. As you can see in the first image below, the live-action version of Venom closely resembles his comic book counterpart, from the terrifying teeth and gigantic mouth to the large white areas where his eyes are. Also, he looks super-slimy.
Venom follows journalist Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) who becomes infected with an alien symbiote, which takes over its human host. Brock struggles to retain his humanity and learns this symbiote gives him superhuman abilities. However, Dr. Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed) wants the symbiote for himself and will do anything in his power to get it back.
Additionally, EW revealed another photo featuring Brock strapped to a chair with Drake standing next to him--pictured below. Drake doesn't look too happy with Brock, and why should he be? If you've seen the trailer for the film, then you know Brock's mission--as a journalist--is to expose the illegal testing Drake is going at his company, The Life Foundation.
Hardy himself is excited for the role and finds the character of Eddie Brock extremely appealing. "There's a tragic clown element, which I find funny and is harmonious with some of the work that I like to do," Hardy told EW. "There's something funny about the circumstances of having a gift but it's a tragic gift. It's a superpower you don’t really want, but at the same time, you love it. It makes you feel special. He's a reluctant hero and an anti-hero."
