Polish developer Draw Distance, the indie studio behind Serial Cleaner and Vampire: The Masquerade - Coteries of New York, has announced the release date for the latter's standalone expansion, Vampire: The Masquerade - Shadows of New York. The visual novel is set to launch on September 10 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Both games are spin-offs of the 2004 RPG Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, offering a chance to dig deeper into the dark and gritty underworld of modern-day vampire clans. In Shadows of New York, you play as Julia, a member of the Lasombra vampire clan and part of the Camarilla faction. She's looking to rise up the ranks of vampire society when the Anarch Baron of New York reaches his "final death" and presents a unique opportunity to do so.

The game features two different endings depending on the choices you make throughout the story, while it promises to be a "more personal, and darker story" than what Coteries offered. Shadows of New York will also feature more illustrations than that game did, complete with animations. The deluxe edition launching on PC will include an artbook and soundtrack composed by Polish artist Resina.

Draw Distance is also planning to release an update for Coteries that's based on player feedback. The patch will introduce the option to fast skip text along with several other fixes.

Shadows of New York isn't the only upcoming game in the Vampire series, of course. Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 is a sequel to the 2004 RPG that's set to launch in 2021 after numerous delays. In surprising news, narrative lead Brian Mitsoda, the lead writer on the original game, was recently terminated from his position on the sequel.
