Unused Justice League Dark Movie Concept Art Shows What Could Have Been

Though the world has yet to see a live-action Justice League Dark movie, a new batch of unused concept art shows what could have been had director Joseph Kahn's version become a reality in 2015. The images were released online and seem like they would have been used to create a comic book movie like no other.

The art was tweeted by Khan after being posted by Justin Fields, whose company Ironklad Studios came up with the concepts. Field notes, "The project was eventually scrapped, and later turned into an animated feature with a completely different script." Justice League Dark is based on the DC Comics title of the same name, which centers on several DC heroes with supernatural powers.

Among the drawings are Swamp Thing, John Constantine, Zatanna, Deadman, Jason Blood, and what likely would have been the film's villain, Floronic Man. Interestingly, the art also hints at some of the cast Kahn was hoping for. Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones) is used as the model for Zatanna, Dan Stevens (Beauty and the Beast) is Constantine, and Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange) stands in for Blood, the human host of Etrigan the Demon.

It's important to note that Kahn's involvement and these designs do not overlap with Guillermo del Toro's take on the project, which came before Kahn threw his hat in the ring. Del Toro went to Twitter himself to announce that, writing, "Not my designs. I never got to that phase. But was mighty proud of the script we developed!"

While no version of Justice League Dark has made it to the big screen yet, Warner Bros. is clearly still planning on it happening one day. Recently, the film was included in a sizzle reel shown to audiences at a convention in Brazil, alongside titles like Wonder Woman 2 and Aquaman.
