Unreal Tournament 2003 goes gold?

EBGames.com reports that Epic's Unreal Tournament 2003 has gone gold, but Infogrames dismisses the report as a "rumor."

Today, EBGames.com has reported on its front page that Unreal Tournament 2003 has gone gold, meaning the game is complete and being prepared for distribution. In recent months, EBGames has been the first to report that several major games were complete, including Warcraft III and Neverwinter Nights.

An Infogrames representative denied that the game is complete, telling GameSpot that EBGames.com has prematurely reported on "gone gold" announcements before and dismissing the report as a "rumor." The recently released 2880319UT2003 demo isn't absolutely representative of the final game, said Infogrames' Matt Frary. Epic is still working on the game, taking into account the feedback the studio has received based on the demo. A 2880493patch for the demo was released on Monday.

Unreal Tournament 2003 is still officially scheduled for release in the third quarter of this year, which would conventionally suggest a release before the start of October. For more details, check out our previous coverage of the game.
